What do you think about this?

Personally, I don't like this idea, and I don't think it has a future. On the other hand, I'm no UI expert.

BTW, I found this out while reading this question in StackOverflow.

  1. It's cute, but (except the photos example) you can't really see what the file is - only the icon is shown instead of the contents preview, and no filename. And even with the preview - it's either too small to see, or takes to much space on the desktop. For me only useful aspect of it is the ability to group icons to different areas.

    Also, instead of all the stacking, it would be much simpler to create the necessary folders and give the files self-explanatory names.

    So I think the model that has actual future is the zoomable interfaces concept - like in this video by Aza Raskin, or Microsoft's Seadragon. It uses our ability of spatial memory, and allows to zoom into files/pages which interest us.
